The Republic of Uruguay is one of the smallest countries in South America, known for its trendy summer resorts, quiet coastal cities, colonial districts, fortresses, hot springs, bohemian atmosphere and of course jazz festivals. Almost all the inhabitants of Uruguay are descendants of immigrants from southern Europe, mainly from Spain and Italy, which affects the traditions of the country. It is especially pleasant to chat with locals and drink mate tea, the use of which has become a favorite daily ritual of the Uruguayans.
